Medical Qualifications 

Dr Joseph Azzopardi graduated from the University of Malta in 1993 and undertook higher specialist training in London at The Barts and The London School of Anaesthesia. He was a visiting fellow in Regional Anaesthesia in Sweden and in 2002 undertook a two-year fellowship in Pain Medicine in Australia. Dr Azzopardi is a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists UK and was awarded the Fellowship of the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists in 2004. He is a Foundation Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Royal College of Anaesthetists since 2007.

Medical Experience

Dr Azzopardi is a Member of the British Pain Society the International Association for the Study of Pain, the World Institute of Pain, the International Neuromodulation Society and the Neuromodulation Society of UK & Ireland.

He is a Consultant in Pain Medicine & Anaesthesia at Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospital as well as a Honorary Consultant in Queen Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust, in Portsmouth. Dr Azzopardi is a Pain Management Consultant in a number of private hospitals in London including Highgate Hospital, the London Bridge Hospital, the Harley Street Clinic, the Lister Hospital and the Wellington Hospital. He also runs a dedicated Cancer Pain Service at the LOC - (Leaders in Oncology Care) and the Oncology Unit at the Harley Street Clinic.

Area(s) of speciality / particular clinical interests

Dr Azzopardi's specialist interests include interventional pain management, radiofrequency ablation pain therapies and neuromodulation (spinal cord stimulation & neuro-axial drug delivery).

He also has a particular interest in interventional pain therapies and neurolytic ablative techniques and is trained to provide percutaneous cervical cordotomy for pain from advanced mesothelioma cancer. His anaesthetic interests include difficult airway anaesthesia, regional anaesthesia and anaesthesia in the developing world. 

Dr Azzopardi has extensive experience in the management of complex chronic pain disorders and cancer pain, as well as musculoskeletal conditions, degenerative spine disease and failed back surgery syndrome.
