Medical Qualifications 

Dr John Outhwaite qualified with a Master's degree from the University of Oxford in 1975 and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree in 1979. Dr Outhwaite was awarded Certificate of Equivalent Experience from the Royal College of General Practitioners in 1981 which was followed by Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 1983. He gained Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians in 1996.

Medical Experience

Dr Outhwaite was awarded an Arthritis Research Campaign Junior Research Fellowship in 1986 to investigate the effect of pressure changes within inflamed joints on the biochemistry of the synovial fluid.

Dr Outhwaite has been a Consultant Physician in Rehabilitation Medicine at Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford since 1991 and has also worked at the National Assistive Technology Centre, Mary Marlborough Disability Service, and the Regional Musculo-Skeletal Rehabilitation Service. He is currently Consultant Orthopaedic Physician and Associate Partner at The London Orthopaedic Clinic, as part of The Princess Grace, where he is available for private patients.

Dr Outhwaite specialises in Rheumatology and Pain Management and has a particular interest in complex and persistent painful conditions that do not respond to simple treatments and are unsuitable for surgical treatment. These include whiplash injury, persistent low back pain, complex regional pain syndrome, fibromyalgia, and knee and foot pain. He provides comprehensive exercise techniques and functional restoration programmes.
