"Smaller is usually better, and practice should be evidence-based. Most vascular and vein surgery can be performed using keyhole techniques which are well proven in terms of clinical effectiveness, and result in much faster recovery and better cosmetic results."

Medical Qualifications

Mr Ian Loftus gained a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Leicester in 1990 and went on to qualify with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery in 1992. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons, England in 1996.

Medical Experience

Mr Loftus is a founding member of The British Society of Endovascular Therapy Council and member of The Vascular Society of Great Britain Council, The National Vascular Audit and Quality Improvement Committee London Chair, the Aneurysm Quality Improvement Programme. He is a Royal College of Surgeons Vascular Surgery Revalidation Advisor and is a former tutor for the Royal College of Surgeons, Critical Care Examiner.

Mr Loftus is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at St George’s NHS Trust London and is a Reader in Vascular Science at St George’s University. He is available for private patients at the Lister Hospital in Chelsea, London.

He has a particular clinical interest in minimally invasive vein and endovascular surgery, including laser/radiofrequency treatments for varicose veins, and endovascular aneurysm repair, carotid surgery and thoracic outlet syndrome as well as treatments for excessive sweating.
