    Personal treatment philosophy:

"Identifying those people who have bone fractures as a result of osteoporosis or who may be at future risk of fracture is very important as integrated treatment can make a very real difference. Using dual energy x-ray (DXA) scanning to measure bone density is invaluable and this is why I am passionate about the benefits of this technology."

Professor David M Reid is a Consultant Rheumatologist and Emeritus Professor of Rheumatology at the University of Aberdeen. He was was previously Head of the School of Medicine & Dentistry at the University.

The professor is internationally recognised as one of the leading authorities on bone health, and has published over 300 original papers and reviews. Much of this work is focused on his research interests. These include the utility of bone mass assessment, assessment of risk of fracture, secondary osteoporosis, glucocorticoid osteoporosis and the assessment of long-term disease activity and drug adverse effects in rheumatic diseases.

Until recently, Professor Reid was Chair of the Arthritis Research UK Clinical Studies Group which advised on the needs for clinical trials in bone diseases. Previously Chair of the Board of Trustees at the National Osteoporosis Society, he is currently a Volunteer Ambassador for the charity.

Professor Reid has been at the forefront of the clinical application of dual-energy x-ray (DXA) scanning, which is used to assess bone quality.

At 25 Harley Street Professor Reid is part of a collaborative team of specialist Consultants offering a completely integrated osteoporosis service.
