Medical Qualifications

Mr James Bliss graduated in 1990 with medical honours, from the University of London. He went on to be awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1995 and undertook specialist orthopaedic and trauma training at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington.

Medical Experience

Mr Bliss obtained the gold medal in the Part III FRSC exam in Orthopaedics and Trauma in 2000 and spent a year in sub-specialist fellowship training at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, focusing on knee surgery.

Mr Bliss was appointed a Consultant Knee surgeon at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, London in 2002 and he treats privately at the London Bridge Hospital, his elective practice is exclusively knee surgery. He is closely involved in training surgeons in complex knee surgery and is an Inter-Collegiate Examiner for the Part III FRCS exam in Orthopaedics, the final examination before trainee surgeons become consultants.

Mr Bliss specialises in sports knee injuries, arthroscopic knee surgery, (including ACL reconstruction and complex ligament reconstruction), mini knee replacement, conventional knee replacement and complex revision knee replacement, management of arthritis in the sportsman and middle aged athlete.
